The sensational claim of Torsten Kanzmeier
„I can increase punching power by 40 % “
The martial arts/personal coach Torsten Kanzmeier came to a sensational realization:
„I can increase the punching power of any boxer by 40%!“ The 47-year old devoted more than 30 years to the roots of the internal martial art Taijiquan and has developed a special training concept he calls „inner boxing“. It puts much emphasis on perfect organization of the body and influencing the opponent by changes in one’s own body. With this method Kanzmeier wants to increase the punching power of boxers considerably.
„I teach the boxers to put more „feeling“ into their boxing. I am breathing, so to speak, „life“ into their technical, outer boxing style, and make them stronger from within. The punch comes less from the shoulder. The actual movement originates in the fist. Once you master this, the fist shoots forward like a locomotive pulling the arm and the body with it in a controlled manner. So there is no firing off of the fist, rather the fist is guiding itself into the target.“, says Kanzmeier.
With his method, Kanzmeier also wants to refute the widespread assumption among boxers that you cannot train a K.O. hit or the so-called lucky punch. „Because I teach the guys to hit more from the fist, their punches are harder to detect for the opponent, or even not at all. Therefore the defensive reflex is strongly diminished and the punch hits the target with full force.“, says Kanzmeier.
The first contact to professional boxing was established about three years ago, when Kanzmeier was discussing a training program with Axel Schulz shortly before the latter’s attempted comeback. Because of Schulz’s defeat and his subsequent resignation nothing became of it. Shortly after, Kanzmeier contacted Steven Küchler, then trainer at the Arena boxing stable, who established contact with Fritz Sdunek. In March 2008 Kanzmeier joined the coach of world champions in the Zinnowitz training camp and worked intensively on the punching power of Alexander Dimitrenko, Sebastian Zbik, Zsolt Erdei and Khoren Gevor. „One does notice the boxers hit harder, especially when working with the focus mitts”, says Sdunek. But the trainer of world champions has difficulties imagining that boxers can put Kanzmeier’s technique into practice in a fight. „It is very interesting indeed.”
